Frequently Asked Questions This area is to cover the frequently asked questions that come up on a regular basis. Please use this part of our forums to bring up any question you would like to see here, or one you think would be informative to the general public. What is the BPECC?
What is
backflow? BPECC stands for the Backflow Prevention Education Council of Colorado, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education about backflow prevention and cross-connection control. Our membership consists of teachers, backflow technicians, plumbers, water purveyors and other industry professionals. Our group has advised the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment on backflow issues since the mid-80's, and continues to do so to this day. We created and maintain the Colorado Cross-Connection Control Manual since our inception, used around the state for education, training and program setup. This website was setup to promote communication between all the different groups involved in cross-connection control in the state of Colorado. Please refer to the BPECC
members page for more information. In general, the BPECC members
come from different areas of the backflow industry in order to provide
different opinions to the Colorado Department of Public Health &
Environment on backflow issues. The BPECC is asking for more members in
specific areas mentioned on the BPECC
members page.
Backflow is the undesirable reversal in the flow of water from
a real or potential source of contamination back to the potable (or clean)
water supply. Consider having a garden hose in a bucket of soapy water
at your home, and having backflow event occur causing that soapy water
to "backflow" into the drinking water portion of your home.
